Everlight expands UV, IR LED packaging capacity

Everlight Electronics, viewing that demand for ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) LED devices remains strong, has expanded monthly packaging capacity for the related chips to 6.8-7.0 billion units, up 180-200 million units from the pervious level, with the newly added capacity already starting to operation in the third quarter of 2020, according to the company.

Everlight's visibility of orders for UV and IR LED devices has already reached the end of 2020, while the product lines' combined contribution in Everlight's revenues already rose from 28% in the first quarter of 2020 to 32% in the second.

As global demand for notebooks has sharply increased in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, Everlight saw the proportion of revenues from LED backlighting devices rise to 22% in the second quarter of 2020.

Everlight began to ship POB (package on board) mini LED backlighting devices used in LCD TVs in the second quarter of 2020, and expects related shipments to increase significantly in the third quarter due to expanded adoption by mid-range and high-end LCD TVs. Revenues from POB mini LED backlighting devices are expected to take up 20% of Everlight's overall revenues from LED backlighting devices.

However, Everlight saw the revenue proportion for LED automotive lighting devices drop from 10% in the fourth quarter of 2019 to 5-6% currently because global car sales are impacted seriously by the pandemic.
