Global curved monitor shipments poised for significant growth in 2021

The global curved monitor market is poised for significant growth in 2021 as more panel makers ramp up production of curved applications and more brand vendors launch related products to cash in on virus-induced market demand, according to industry sources.

Efforts being launched by related suppliers and vendors could ramp up global curved monitor shipments to 15 million units in 2021, the sources estimated.

Panel makers including AU Optronics (AUO) and China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) have revved up their efforts for curved LCD displays, as Samsung Electronics, which previously accounted for 80% of the curved display market, is withdrawing from the LCD panel market, said the sources.

The production yield rates of 27- and 34-inch curved displays at CSOT are reportedly improving, which would enable end-market device vendors to roll out related products to meet rising market demand, the sources noted.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi has joined Dell and Micro-Star International (MSI) to launch 27- and 34-inch curved monitors, with the latter to be available in Taiwan starting September.

Other China-based vendors including Huawei, Oppo and Vivo are also expected to release their curved display products later, added the sources.

TV ODMs including Foxconn Electronics and TPV Technology have already kicked off commercial production of curved monitors leveraging their TV manufacturing experience.
