LCD TV panel prices to keep falling in May

LCD TV panel prices are expected to continue dropping sequentially, with 32- to 55-inch applications to slip US$2-4 per panel and 65- and 75-inch ones to decline US$8-10 per unit, according to Sigmaintell Consulting.

The Russia-Ukraine war has shored up prices for crude oil, natural gas and other materials, and inflation has weakened purchasing power and demand for TVs, Sigmaintell said.

COVID lockdowns in China have impacted logistics and production and reduced TV demand in the China market, Sigmaintell noted.

As first-quarter 2022 TV sales in the US and Europe slipped about 20% sequentially, vendors including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have lowered procurement of TV panels planned for first-half 2022. However, panel makers have not reduced output and second-tier makers have been eager to clear inventories, aggravating oversupply.

LCD panels for monitors and notebooks are also expected to see prices slip in May.
