Global dashboard panel shipments to fall in 2020, says Digitimes Research

Global shipments of LCD panels for automotive dashboards are expected to decline 15.9% on year to 50.1 million units in 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic has crippled demand for automobiles, Digitimes Research estimates.

The decline rate of dashboard panels will be higher than that estimated for CID (central information display) panels due to the high penetration rate of dashboards and the fact that the auto markets in Europe and the US have been hit hard by the pandemic.

Due to the growing popularity of dashboard panels sized ranging from 7- to 12.3-inch, the ratio of small-size dashboard panels (below 7-inch) is expected to fall to 54.8% in 2020, while those above 9-inch models will climb to 19.4%.

Including panels for other applications such as CID, HUD (head-up display) and rear mirror, global shipments of automotive panels are expected to grow 26.1% on year to 11.1 million in 2020, Digitimes Research projects.
