Everlight ships POB miniLED BLUs for TCL TVs

Everlight Electronics started shipping POB (package on board) miniLED backlight units (BLU) for TCL's LCD TVs in second-quarter 2020, according to industry sources.

The Chinese vendor in August 2020 launched Roku 6 55-, 65- and 75-inch miniLED-backlit LCD TVs for US$650, US$900 and US$1,400 respectively, all featuring 240 local dimming zones, high contrast and a refresh rate of 120Hz, the sources said. TCL's affiliate China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) is the sole supplier of LCD panels used in the TVs, the sources noted.

Xiaomi has recently launched an 82-inch 8K LCD TV backlit by 15,360 miniLED chips, and Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are expected to launch miniLED-backlit LCD TVs in 2021, the sources indicated.

With sales in the US and Europe traditionally peaking in late December, Everlight is expected to see miniLED BLUs peak in September-October and remain strong in November, the sources said, adding that Everlight's revenue proportion for miniLED BLUs in 2020 is estimated at 5-6%.

Everlight has fully utilized packaging capacity for UV and IR LED devices, and additional monthly capacity of packaging 180-200 UV and IR LEDs has been gradually come online since third-quarter 2020, the sources noted.
