E-paper solution provider E Ink Holding (EIH) has teamed up with China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) to develop and manufacture e-paper-based TFT backplanes and large-size e-paper signage boards.

The collaboration calls for the production of 42-inch e-paper TFT backplanes, using the LCD production lines at a CSOT 8.5G fab.

The use of an advanced 8.5G line to produce e-paper TFT backplanes will result in significant improvement in terms of production cost and efficiency for the manufacture of related products, according to EIH chairman Johnson Lee.

CSOT's LCD panel production capacity will help lift EIH's production capability for large-size e-paper solutions as well as e-paper signage boards for transportation, medical care and education applications, Lee said.

Meanwhile, China-based Yiwu Qing Yue Photoelectronics, EIH's new production partner for e-paper display modules, has kicked off volume production of ESL (electronic sheft label) modules boosting EIH's supply capacity for related products. Yiwu has an annual capacity of 55 million units for e-paper display modules, according to industry sources.
