Singapore-based semiconductor assembly equipment supplier Kulicke and Soffa Industries (K&S) has launched Luminex, a tool for placing miniLED chips and mass transfering microLED chips.

K&S shipped Luminex to Taiwan-based clients in September 2021 and is showcasing the equipment at Productronica 2021 in Munich, Germany during November 16-19, industry sources said.

K&S began developing Pixalux, which is capable of placing 50 miniLED chips per second, in 2017, company executive vice president and Product & Solution general manager Chong chan-pin said.

According to market surveys, global production of miniLED and microLED chips is increasing at a CAGR of 55% during 2021-2025, resulting in fast growing demand for related equipment, K&S said.
