Apple is showing its preference for miniLED backlighting for high-end notebooks and tablets, and Apple is likely to adopt such backlighting for 13.3-inch MacBook Air to be launched in 2022, according to industry sources.

Apple has launched 12.9-inch miniLED-backlit iPad Pro and 14- and 16-inch miniLED-backlit MacBook Pro in October 2021.

MacBook Air shipments are estimated at 5.5-6.0 million units globally in 2021, and shipments for miniLED-backlit models are expected to rise to about 8.0 million units in 2022, the sources forecast.

In addition, miniLED backlighting is also likely to be adopted for 11-inch iPad Pro, the sources said.
