HannStar Display will start rolling out LPRD (low power reflective display) panels in 2021, targeting applications for smart retailing, education, transportation, fitness, and environmental protection, according to company sources.
The company expects sales of LPRD panels to contribute significantly to its growth in the coming years, as it estimates that the global LPRD panel market is likely to grow by a CAGR of 12% during 2021-2026, said the sources.
HannStar will optimize production from its two 5.3G LCD fabs, with one focusing on production TFT-LCD panels with a capacity of 140,000 substrates a month and the other on touch panels with a capacity of 80,000 substrates.
Its panel shipments came to 4.37 million 19-inch equivalent panels in the first quarter of 2021 with an ASP of US$64.
It expects its gross margin to reach over 50% in the second quarter of 2021, up from 48% in the previous quarter, thanks to rising panel prices. Net profit for the first quarter came to NT$3.036 billion (US$109.29 million).
It also generated net profit of NT$976 million on revenues of NT$2.75 billion in April.
