Lite-On Tech, Everlight expand capacity for IR LED photocouplers

Lite-On Technology will expand production capacity for infrared (IR) LED photocouplers by 10-15% in 2021, while Everlight Electronics will expand annual packaging capacity for such products by 300 million chips in the year, according to industry sources.

Lite-On hiked quotes for IR LED photocouplers by 10-20% in February 2021, the sources said. Demand for such products has been strong in first-quarter 2021 and will remain so until the second half of the year, the sources cited Lite-On president Anson Chiu as indicating. Lite-On expects the revenue proportion for all types of LED devices to rise from 18% in 2020 to 20% in 2021.

Everlight raised quotes for IR LED photocouplers by 10-20% earlier in first-quarter 2021 and is running at full capacity for such products, the sources said, adding Everlight will start ramping up new poduction capacity for IR LED photocouplers in second-quarter 2021.

Tyntek, a supplier of IR LED chips for Lite-On and Everlight, has fully utilized the corresponding monthly production capacity equivalent to about 30,000 5-inch epitaxial wafers, the sources indicated.

Tyntek has hiked quotes for IR LEDs by 5-10% in first-quarter 2021 and will raise prices by 10-15% in the following quarter, the sources said.
