First discussed back in February of this year, we now have some further official information about the new UltraSharp Premium UP3221Q display from Dell. The 31.5″ sized screen is focused on professional users and colour critical work, as well as HDR creation and display. Highlights include a 2000 zone Mini LED backlight for great local dimming capabilities, VESA Display HDR 1000 certification, built in CalMAN calibration device, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and a 99.8% DCI-P3 wide colour gamut.
Crafted with a premium platinum silver finish, this sleek monitor features a small base, a catch-less snap-on cable cover and an improved cable management design that hides cables in the monitor riser, for a clutter free desk space.
Spec wise the 31.5″ IPS technology panel offers a 3840 x 2160 (4K) resolution, 8ms G2G response time (normal mode), 60Hz refresh rate, 1300:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness (SDR), 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness (HDR), 178/178 viewing angles, true 10-bit colour depth and 99.8% DCI-P3 colour gamut. This also corresponds to 93% Adobe RGB and 83% BT.2020 coverage which is impressive.
The screen supports HDR content well thanks to its 2000 zone Mini LED backlight. It is certified to the VESA Display HDR 1000 standard and offers a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m2, a wide colour gamut (99.8% DCI-P3) and true 10-bit colour depth.
The screen comes factory calibrated with a range of calibrated presets and modes. These include: SDR: Delta-E < 1 (average) for DCI P3 D65, BT.709, D65, sRGB D65. There is also an integrated CalMAN calibration device which can calibrate the screen at a hardware LUT level for optimal performance and regular corrections with or without using your PC. You can also hardware calibrate the screen using an external device if you have one. For convenience a USB-A port at the front of the monitor lets you easily connect to external colorimeters or spectrophotometers.
Users can reduce unwanted ambient light, glare and reflection with the magnetically attached shading hood that’s provided with the screen. Dell include an added uniformity correction mode as well to help control the luminance across the screen for professional users and colour critical work.
Thunderbolt 3 delivers speeds of up to 40Gbps, creating one compact port that does it all—delivering the fastest3 and most versatile connection to any dock, display or data peripheral. PbP is included for multi device connectivity as well. There are also 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0 and 2x USB 3.2 ports provided for connectivity. The stand offers tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments.
